Cartersville Travel Guide
Welcome to Cartersville, GA!
This vibrant Bartow County city is located a 45-minute drive northwest of Atlanta, in the rolling hills of north Georgia. Like most cities in the area, Cartersville, was affected by Sherman's March to the Sea during the American Civil War. Today, Cartersville has an abundance of cultural and recreational opportunities. Historic Downtown Cartersville is home to the Grand Theatre, where many of the city's community art groups perform. The 80,000-square-foot Booth Western Art Museum is another example that reflects the area's rich arts and culture through a variety of viewing and interpretive galleries. Carterville is also the site of the Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site dating from 1000 A.D. The site encompasses a museum, plaza and village area and is one of the most intact historical sites of the Mississippian culture. The Allatoona Lake Visitor's Center, located on Allatoona Lake and Dam, at the head of several hiking trails, offers a wealth of leisure opportunities to visitors.
